Inauguration of the travelling exhibition marking the 50th anniversary of the RAMOGE Agreement in Genoa

On 28 May 2026, the Genoa maritime station (Ponte dei Mille) hosted the inauguration of a travelling exhibition commemorating the 50th anniversary of the RAMOGE Agreement, entitled “Preserving the Mediterranean. RAMOGE, a pioneering agreement for 50 years”.

Signed on 10 May 1976 in the Throne Room of the Prince’s Palace — a unique event in Monaco’s contemporary history for an agreement of this kind — at the initiative of Prince Rainier III, the RAMOGE Agreement brings together France, Monaco and Italy around the protection of the marine environment and coastline of an area initially extending from Saint-Raphaël to Genoa, later expanded from the mouth of the Rhône to that of the Magra. For half a century, this trilateral cooperation instrument has carried out concrete actions in the fields of marine biodiversity, pollution response, and awareness-raising on Mediterranean environmental issues. It remains, to this day, the only agreement in the Mediterranean that combines both anti-pollution action and biodiversity conservation.

Developed by the Executive Secretariat of the Agreement and the National Archives of Monaco, in partnership with the Archives of the Prince’s Palace and the Audiovisual Institute of Monaco, and with the support of the Princely Government and the Italian Ministry of the Environment, the exhibition retraces the origins, history and major achievements of the Agreement through archival documents, photographs, educational content and testimonies. It was also visited by numerous students from the Nautical Institute of Genoa.

This inauguration marks the first stage of the official celebrations following the symbolic date of 10 May 2026. The exhibition will be open in Genoa until the end of August (1 June – 12 July and 4 – 31 August at the maritime station; 13 July – 3 August at the Ducal Palace), before being presented in France in the autumn.

The highlight of the RAMOGE Agreement’s 50th anniversary will take place in the Principality of Monaco on 25–26 June, where an enhanced version of the exhibition, featuring an audiovisual installation, will be hosted in the atrium of the Ministry of State from 29 June to 30 October 2026.
