Mediterranean biodiversity is one of the richest worldwide. It is home to 25-30% of the world’s endemic species and 10% of the world’s marine species, although the Mediterranean Sea accounts for less than 1% of the world’s ocean surface. Most of these species are threatened mainly due to human activities, various forms of pollution and climate change.
It hosts so emblematic species, considered indicators of the good ecological state of an ecosystem and likely to be threatened.
In the interest of preserving biodiversity, monitoring these species is fundamental, and every observation is valuable.

Citizen science
The RAMOGE Agreement thus invites all sea users to share their observations of some of these key Mediterranean species: the brown meagre, the dusky grouper, the other 5 grouper species affected by the French moratorium, the noble pen shell, rough pen shell, cystoseira species, the ferruginous limpet, and Lithophyllum rim habitats.
Descriptive sheets of these species have been prepared in collaboration with scientists from the RAMOGE working groups and also mention the information to be collected in case of a census.
Find more details on citizen science and census procedures in the corresponding tab.
The information gathered in this context will enable them to increase their knowledge of the conservation status of these species and to propose protection measures.
